I'm sorry to hear that your knee is bad. I hope it gets better. Lots of rest, and keep it high up should help a little bit. Of course, huge amounts of tea with tonnes of sugar, some Norwegian chocolate and a good animé and you'll be up in no time. Doctor's recommendation!

Jon, how have you found it in Europe compared to in the U.S.? Just in terms of the atmosphere surrounding the (ever) ongoing situation in Israel?

Depends on where you are. I am a bit of an oddball in the States, I am very liberal, but support Israel....which is like being a republican and liking Michael Moore!! Most people in Europe are pretty open to the situation it seems. They have their opinion but are always open to discussing and changing their view. France is a joke though. Turn on the news in France it looks like Israel just rose from the depths of hell to take over the world and make everyone their slave or something.

I don't think it's odd for you to be a liberal and support Israel. What's sort of odd is that "traditionally" non-orthodox Jews have leaned more to the liberal side, so it's strange now that things are supposedly turning and the Bushies have decided to become the Champions of Israel. Of course, as I'm sure you'd agree, their motives have nothing to do with genuinely supporting the existence of the Jewish state and more to do with money and politics and/or biblical prophecy depending how kooky they are.

I just wish we could all get along.
